Welcome to the team! Below is some information that you might find useful.

General information

  • Our Product and Dev team have a stand up every Monday - Friday from 9:30 - 9:45
  • Our sprints are two weeks and start on Wednesdays.
  • We plan our sprints through the GitHub extension Jira.

Team

Please see our team information for:

  • Who’s in the team
  • Our alliance
  • Our roadmap
  • Our ceremonies

Your first sprint ceremonies

When you join the team, we want you to feel welcome and included. With your input, we’ll collectively update our team alliance, and you’ll be able to meet the team if you haven’t done so already.

Tools

Communication

We use Microsoft Teams and Google Meet for team calls, and use Slack for direct calls.

Our main chat platform is Slack, and this is our preferred method of communication.

Download Slack from the Company Portal on your MoJ issued laptop.

The main Slack channels are listed below.

#nvvs-devops-team-chat

The #nvvs-devops-team-chat channel is our team channel where we have team discussions about anything ranging from:

  • in-depth technical issues
  • our plans for the day
  • to request someone else from the team’s help
  • when we’re away for lunch
  • general musings

If you can’t make standup, post your standup update here.

#nvvs-devops

The #nvvs-devops was previously our team channel, it’s been replaced by the #nvvs-devops-team-chat, which is used for the reasons mentioned above.

Now, we use this channel to update the wider community on what we are working on. It’s particularly important as the people who support our Out of Hours service are in there, and can be kept up to date with changes we make to our environments.

#ask-nvvs-devops

The #ask-nvvs-devops channel is for anyone who isn’t in the team to:

  • ask questions about the services we run
  • get advice from the team

#nvvs-devops-notifications

The #nvvs-devops-notifications channel is where we direct notifications from GitHub, such as pull requests or issues.

It’s a noisy channel, so it’s up to you whether to join it.

GitHub teams to join (optional)

To add or close issues in our GitHub Project,

You can request to join or post a message in #ask-nvvs-devops channel and someone in the team will help you.

Learning and Development

  • Pluralsight, ask for a pluralsight license in the #pluralsight Slack channel.

  • O'Reilly, ask for a license in the #oreilly-learning-platform Slack channel.

  • AWS Training. You can access the OGVA schedule via logging into here using you organisation email address. You can access the schedule directly here. For the courses, a reminder:

    • if you can no longer attend, please do withdraw from the course through your AWS training account - it will then become available to others
    • if your team has a need for training not listed here (or is fully booked), please do let me know and I can enquire about an MOJ-only course
    • if a class or course has a cost or isn’t part of the OGVA schedule, it is likely not part of the OGVA agreement
  • Learn Tech Trello Board for questions that you have about our Friday learning sessions

Further information

We’re currently building our documentation to cover core concepts and general practices within the team.

It’s worth having a read through the user guide and concepts pages.

There is a varying level of technical detail across the documentation, so if you have any questions or are interested in something in particular, feel free to reach out in #ask-nvvs-devops.
