Our Ceremonies
The Developer Experience Team has the following regular ceremonies. We run each ceremony for both squads, Developer Portal and Engineering Platform. The faciltator of the ceremonies is rotated within the team, to offer everyone a chance to speak, offer a fresh perspective and develop professionally.
| Ceremony | Occurence | Day |
|---|---|---|
| Stand Up | Daily | Monday - Friday |
| Sprint Planning | Bi-Weekly | Monday |
| Backlog Refinement | Weekly | Wednesday and Thursday |
| Sprint Retrospective | Bi-Weekly | Thursday |
| Team Demo | Bi-Weekly | Wednesday |
| Sprint Review | Bi-Weekly | Tuesday |
Stand Up
Our stand-ups run daily from 09:30 and last for fifteen minutes each. We will follow one of two formats:
Walk The Board
Starting with the “Done” column we discuss any active issues via GitHub Projects
Yesterday, Today, Blockers
A round robin of each team member discussing their issues and any blockers.
Sprint Planning
Each Sprint is two weeks long and starts on a Monday. We use GitHub Projects to run a one-hour session.
Backlog Refinement
On Wednesday and Thursday we have a session on backlog refinement. The purpose of this ceremony is for the team to agree that any issues created have enough information for any other team member to pick up. Once a issue is refined we estimate it using the Fibonacci scale.
Sprint Retrospective
At the end of each sprint we have a one-hour retrospective. This is for the team to openly discuss positives and negatives of the sprint. The format, using Miro, is regularly changed to keep the retro fresh and effective.
Team Demo
Once per sprint, we have a thirty-minute team demo to share with our colleagues any new features or functionality of a piece of work and the value they deliver.
Sprint Review
At the end of each sprint we hold a 45-minute sprint review. This is an opportunity to share our work, receive feedback and celebrate our successes. We will invite other teams to attend and encourage them to ask questions and share their thoughts on our work.
