The Data & Analysis Directorate within the MoJ offers a range of subscription based paid for self learning resources including free courses with trial access to help you get started.

Keep in mind that for comprehensive access, paid subscriptions are one of the benefits of working for us. The free resources below can serve as a solid foundation for you to get started.

Below is a list of free learning resources and courses from DataCamp, Skillsoft, O’Reilly, and LinkedIn Learning for new Data and Analytics Engineers to explore:

DataCamp

DataCamp offers interactive courses in data science, analytics, and engineering with a focus on programming languages like Python and SQL. The platform provides free introductory courses and a free trial for deeper learning in areas like data manipulation, data modeling, and machine learning.

SkillSoft

Skillsoft provides learning modules covering a wide range of technical skills, including data analysis, cloud platforms, and project management. Their resources also include leadership and soft skills development, which are essential for career growth in data engineering roles.

O'Reilly

O'Reilly offers comprehensive access to books, tutorials, and videos on a wide range of technical topics. It covers everything from data architecture to cloud computing, Python, R, and data visualization. Their free trial gives you access to these learning materials to build your knowledge base.

LinkedIn Learning

Additional resources

  • AWS Training: Additional AWS courses are available as part of the MoJ’s One Government Value Agreement (OGVA) with AWS. These courses are free to attend and offered on a first-come, first-served basis for staff only (places are shared across government).
  • Pulumi: AWS tutorials available from VMs to Serverless to Containers. Pulumi is an open source Infrastructure as Code tool for creating, deploying and managing cloud infrastructure.
  • Dataquest: Data science training program, from beginner data analytics concepts to advanced data visualisation and machine learning. Includes Data Engineering Career Path.
  • MoJ Coffee & Coding sessions: Code training for justice analysts.
    MoJ Python Learning Pathway: This resource aims to help technically-minded people start learning and experimenting with Python.
  • The Data Science Accelerator: A capability-building programme that gives analysts from across the public sector the opportunity to develop their data science skills: You will work on a data science project, proposed by you, over 3 months for one day a week.
  • MyLearning: Learning platform for all MoJ staff (Shared Service Connected Limited (SSCL) should create an account for you). Includes the Apprenticeship Zone.
